26th Homebirth Australia Conference

The conference is being held May 15th & 16th 2010 in Echuca - Moama on the NSW Victorian Border.

There will be a welcome reception on friday evening ( including a turkish bazaar of local traders) and Rich River Golf Club Resort has good / cheap meals if you want to eat there. The conference is being held at Rich River Golf Club Resort (http://www.richriver.com.au) which is in NSW afew Kms from Echuca. ( If partners are accompanying you and want to play golf they will need to book early as weekend golf at RR is at a premium.

Echuca also has the historic Port which is worth a look and paddlesteamer rides are available by emailing Vern Beasley <beasleyvern[at]hotmail.com> who will arrange friday afternoon cruises at a special rate if people are interested. Just mention you are coming to the conference

Echuca is 200 kms north of Melbourne as is best reached by flying into Tullamarine airport and then either hiring a car or catching a V-line bus which picks up at the airport. http://www.vline.com.au/index_timetables.aspx?sid=22. Having the care would be an advantage once you are here to get back and forward from the conference to your accommodation but Rich River offers courtesu buses in the afternoons and evenings and we will organise something for the mornings if people let us know they do not have cars.

There is plenty of accommodation of all types in Echuca and you can check it out at the Echuca Moama tourism webiste http://www.echucamoama.com

The registration brochure is downloadable from the link below along with the program.  Places at the conference will be limited by the size of the venue ( it is the biggest there is in Echuca) so get in early. Hope to see you there.

What people say about home birth

I enjoyed giving birth to my second son in a birth pool. My birthing room was warm and candlelit and I was lovingly supported by my birthing team. This made me feel emotionally safe as I birthed my baby gently.

I would love Australian women to enjoy a water birth just as I did. I am surprised to hear that less than 5% of Australian women can choose warm water immersion for pain relief and for birth!

I strongly recommend that the medical system in Australia give women the choice to be able to use a warm water pool during labour, for deep relaxation and giving birth.

I support Homebirth Australia's work to enable all Australian women to choose where and with whom they share their intimate experience of birth.
