Our Maternity Advocacy Partners
Homebirth Australia partners with other maternity consumer organisations to further our aims for increased access to homebirth.
Maternity Consumer Network have been advocating for Medicare for homebirth and offer an amazing free consumer representative training course on their website. MCN has been involved in many media stories over the years, raising awareness of issues facing women who birth in the hospital system and promoting homebirth and continuity of midwifery carer.
Maternity Choices Australia have been doing amazing work supporting women through the process of making complaints about their maternity care in hospital. They have also been advocating alongside Homebirth Australia for the expansion of publicly funded homebirth programs around Australia and they have helpful advice for women in QLD to request funding for their homebirth from their local MP (QLD is currently the only state to have never had a publicly funded homebirth model). MCA also has a fabulous resource for women planning unassisted birth (freebirth).
Homebirth NSW have been leading the way in homebirth advocacy for many years, and we work closely with them on NSW and National homebirth issues. Homebirth NSW publishes the very popular Birthings magazine which has been in publication for over 40 years. They also maintain a register of homebirth midwives in NSW.
Homebirth QLD maintain a comprehensive list of midwives and other birth workers in QLD and are working on an amazing documentary on homebirth (which we can't wait to see!). They also stock a good range of homebirth merchandise in their online shop. HBQ celebrate their 40th anniversary next year.

Federal Election Birth Plan
Homebirth Australia has collaborated with Maternity Consumer Network and other maternity consumer groups from around the country in preparation for the upcoming Federal election.
Together, we are asking for: 1. Increase continuity of midwifery carer to:
3. Published data on hospital and clinician outcomes including: Patient Reported Experience Measure and Patient Reported Outcome Measures. View the full Federal Election Brief here. We encourage all homebirth advocates to meet with their Federal MP's and ask them to support these requests. |
NSW Election Birth Plan

Homebirth Australia supports Maternity Choices Australia's NSW Election Birth Plan.
With an election coming up, it is a really important time to be meeting with your state MP's and letting them know what changes you'd like to see in maternity.
For 2 years, COVID has been used as an excuse to close publicly funded homebirth programs and shut down birth centres - enough is enough!
We encourage all NSW maternity consumers to head to the MCA website and follow the instructions to contact your state MP.
